ICE, ICE, BABY

ICE, ICE, BABY

1×5 / Presented by Ricky Andalcio

Ice cream sales generate more than £1bn to the UK economy with the average Brit consuming 9 litres of ice cream every year. We take a look at the ice cream innovators at the fore front of the industry in the lead up to the National Ice Cream Competition, as makers seek to claim the crown of number 1 frozen foodie.

Held each year in February by the Ice Cream Alliance, the competition is the finale of the Ice Cream Expo which attracts all of the ice cream aficionados across the UK looking to share and sell their own blends. Our journey begins by meeting Ice Cream Alliance chief executive Zelica Carr who gives us a brief history of the ice cream competition and tells us what goes into selecting the perfect ice cream.

With around 1,000 artisan ice cream makers across the UK and Ireland from the Channel Islands to the Shetlands, Zelica’s team of cone connoseurs have a task on their hands as they sift through specialists in French ice creams to Italian Gelato’s.
