SHAKESPEARE IN THE CITY

SHAKESPEARE IN THE CITY

1×5

In this presenterless film, we travel to God’s Own Country, focusing on Leeds and the Dales, as we learn about Leeds Young Poets, taking some out of their comfort zone for recitals that draw on the power of place and identity.

We begin with a wide angle of writer and poet Khadijah Ibrahim standing with the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct behind her. Cutting to a close down the barrel shot, the seasoned Jamaican artist recites a short poem she has written.

In her thick Yorkshire accent we hear her touch upon themes of identity and origin and how these many multifaceted aspects of her life have gone on to impact the way that she writes her poems. Against the backdrop of the iconic landmark, the Leeds born poet explains the thought and emotion that went into writing her poem, that touches upon religion, culture and heritage.
